Maquillage pour moi

{gifted japanese make~up from bestie from africa}

When the lovely Rachel Hearle {see HERE} wanted to come and offer her services as a make~up artist and showcase exactly what she does when it come to a make~up MOT I told her I, sadly, was not her woman. I offered up my friend Justine who firstly LOVES make~up & secondly has way more than me.

While I’m all for changing my style & mixing and matching my clothes ~ when it comes to my boat race I am a little lady who knows what works and sticks to it. Boring some of you may say and…well…I would tend to agree but what can I say? I likes what I likes.

DSC03121

* Baseline ~ A good base can do wonders. An old friend of mine, who trained as a make~up artist, told me that once I started wearing foundation I’d never look back. Well, Elle ~ I love you but I can’t stand foundation. I just feel too caked in a layer make~up when I wear it & I like my skin to breath. In the deep dark depths of February, however, I do, sadly, need a little help so that I look one step away from male corpse.  A make~up artists favourite, I discovered Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer, which I only use in the winter, along with her bronzer & L’oreal magic touch cover up.

Add to that my signature Poupee cheeks in Mac’s Dollymix powder & Premeditated cream colour blusher.

*Eyeline ~ Maybelline’s classic great lash mascara has been a staple of mine ever since I saw a picture of Kate Moss using it when I was teenager. Sometimes I’ll mix up the colour {brown in the summer, black in the winter} but other than that she treats me just fine. My Mac pencil is for a tiny dab at the corner of my eyes come an evening whereas the Max factor liquid liner is a new addition and will be showcased real soon…watch this space.

*Lipservice ~ As has been documented {HERE & HERE} lipstick is a whole new experience in my beauty regime and one I can’t imagine not having now. It’s the ultimate pick~me up & I am only going to keep adding and adding….

Do you use any of the same products, My Shoelets?

I’d love some lipstick suggestions ~ I’m currently on the hunt for a rich raspberry, deep red colour for those wintery days…

Make~up MOT

DSC06655

Rachel Hearle first got in contact with me a couple of years ago just for a little bit of advice about setting up her business of Make~up M.O.T’s. Essentially she does exactly the same thing as a Red Shoes No Knickers Wardrobe detox but for your make~up bag! How cool is that? Finding a gap in the market, as I did, she realised that a lot of women own a make~up bag/drawer full of items they don’t know how to use or, more importantly, that suit them & their skin tones.

Using my good friend Justine as an example, Rachel went through her make~up CHEST {make~up is Justine’s thing} & showed her what to get rid of, how to apply foundation properly, what lipsticks to look out for and how to perfect the ultimate black liquid liner winged eye. She made suggestions about what she should be buying and what she should be avoiding {those beautifully packaged ‘sets’ of lipsticks/eyeshadows that come our way at Christmas and look like they make great presents? NOooooooooo} & basically left Justine with half the make~up she originally owned but with all the tools needed to make the most of it….Sound familiar?

‘I loved it and have been inspired to wear less but more effectively. I’ve been wearing my new tinted moisturizer and my best friend commented on my makeup at the theatre last week. I think the service you offer is great’

Rachel’s MOT’s can be found HERE ~ Why not do a Wardrobe detox & a Make~up detox at the same time?

Face {& body} time

DSC03110What with this week being named Saweeet body week I thought I’d start by showing all the products and secrets that I swear by when it comes to my beauty routine.

Tomorrow I’m going to introduce you properly to Rachel Hearle who is a professional make up artist. When I asked her what the best moisturizer was, what the best primer/cleanser/foundation was she gave some savvy, sage advice and said that it’s all individual to the person. What works for one person won’t for another. However, when I asked her about drinking 8 pints of water a day, getting 5 vegetables in you a day & spritzing your boat race with rose water she essentially said it’s all bollocks. I mean obviously it can’t hurt but when it comes to looking after the delicate skin that lines our face there is one beauty product that works on all skin types. That clears the pores, plumps the skin and makes you look alive. It’s free for everyone and it’s…..

8 hours of sleep a night

Now, I know that the mothers out there will be cursing the very words that I type but I can only relay what I’ve been told and what I believe to be true. After a long week of late night and early mornings I can always and I mean EVERY. SINGLE. TIME notice a difference in my skin when I head to bed on Saturday night and wake up 8 ~ 10 hours later. I look younger, less gaunt and, like I said before, actually alive. When faced {pun intended} with this information for the first time I told Rache that when I had to get up early those 8 hours of dreamlike lushness were out of my reach. She bluntly told me to go to bed earlier. She was of course right ~ at 10pm I could be crawling into the pit but instead I’m watching ‘Geordie Shore’. You know have a similar choice. {I, of course, still watch GS but now like to Sky plus it}

BESIDES the 8 hours of sleep I like to rely on the below ~ nothing fancy but they work for me ~

* Vaseline cocoa bodylotion ~ Some of you may find this hard to believe but I moisturize my ENTIRE body every day. Entire & Every. I once saw someone doing it on a TV program and wondered why she was moisturizing her boobs. I copied & have been doing it ever since. I’ve tried many a body lotion and while I do like a scented one I don’t like it to overpower my perfume ~ this one is thick even without being greasy & smells gorgeous.

*St.Ives facial scrub ~ While I don’t use this every day it is almost like a weekly treat when I need to plump up & really clean out those pores. With different skin types available there’s sure to be one to suit you.

DSC03113

*Dove soap ~ This is my one major beauty secret and would be my desert island take {if I couldn’t take Ryan Gosling or a chess board} It’s simple and plain and boring, I know! I’m sorry. There is nothing exciting about a bar of soap but Dove is my face wash AND my body wash. I swear by it. I can visibly see a difference in my skin when I’ve run out. Try it. She may just surprise you.

DSC03111

*Nivea visage Q10 day & night cream ~ A couple of years ago I started putting a few more extra pounds towards my moisturizing cream and invested in a night cream. Both say Q10 and both say anti wrinkle ~ I have no idea what Q10 actually is and I’m not sure whether I believe a cream is going to stop wrinkles but I do know that the night cream feels gorgeous and the day cream has an all important SPF. I’m sure I could do better ~ What do you use? All suggestions are welcome.

*Nivea daily essential face wipes ~ When the face wipe for something other than a babies bottom arrived I thought I’d won the lottery. I take my make up off in the evening with these beauties and don’t know where I’d be without them.

DSC03112

* Simple cleanser & toner ~ While I’ve pretty much always cleansed my face of make ~ up I skipped the toner stage due to lack of funds. Last year saw me go through a particularly bad outbreak of spots and I headed back to the trusty toner. Making sure not a miniscule of make~up was left on my face, by using both these products, I instantly saw a difference and now don’t go a morning without cleansing, toning & moisturizing.

DSC03114

*Lucas pawpaw & Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream ~ Whenever I used to read articles with celebrities on their beauty regimes more often than not people would say they just simply couldn’t live without their 8 hour cream. They never said what they used it for or essentially what it actually is. In copying #sisterwithmassivelaugh {8 hour cream} & My Husband {Lucas pawpaw} I bought into these two balms and now, in the words of those forgetful actresses, ‘I couldn’t live without them’. I carry the paw paw cream around with me every day and smooth it on lips, cracked hands, eyelashes that have no mascara on them. At night time I smother on the, slightly heavier, 8 hour cream to my entire face if I’ve had a day in the sun or just my lips & under my eyes if otherwise. Again, like those celebs ~ I can’t tell you what they do or what they are but I do know that I love them and will use them forever.

* Dove ‘go fresh’ deodorant ~ Having tried a few brands and a few scents I settled on this fresh, light deodorant that doesn’t over power and simply does what it’s supposed to ~ Stop me from smelling of BO. Job done.

And that’s my daily {and nightly} body routine.

What’s yours?

Do you use any of the same?

Swear by others?

Know what the hell Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hour cream is?

Inspire me

skin-rehab-620x381 (1)

As I popped over to bloglovin’ this week ~ Did you know you can also follow me there? It’s the same shiz as here but you know…more the merrier ~ I stumbled across Garance Dore‘s post on Skin Rehab. {see HERE}

I don’t know what happened but my skin has been so bad recently. Teenage hormone bad. I do realise that what you put into your body is just as important as what you slather on to it but for some reason nothing seemed to be helping & I had to take some time out & apply some face TLC. Sleep, steam, scrub & massage. I’m slowly getting back to looking like I own an adults face but reading Garance’s post & having been through a month of heavy duty concealer I realised I need to take more care of my boat race. Especially in these upcoming {read piss off} winter months.

I’m inspired by Garance’s post to make next week Saweet Body week ~ What we use, what we save our coins for, what we wish for & how we paint ourselves pretty…..See you on the other side for some pampering.

Getting lippy

Big changes are ahead.

In four days time I shall be sadly leaving my pad, where I have been living for the past five years, and shacking up with a bunch of fashion savvy gals down the road.  I’m throwing things out, changing my winter wares, chopping my hair off {not too much but it does feel short} and brightening up my face with a brand spanking new lippy!

In April of this year I was rooting around Tim’s make~up bag looking for something to brighten up my tired face and happened upon her Nars lip pencil. Having not worn lipstick since I was 15 I loved the fact that this pencil could so easily be applied. WELL! Everything changed from the moment I crayonned on my lips.  I’d avoided lipstick for some many years, preferring instead to play up my cheeks for colour, as I thought it made my teeth look wonky and didn’t suit my skin tone but I was now loving this thing we called lipstick! Perhaps the fact that I am now a big old ginger {as opposed to a dark brunetter} and am in the middle of Invisalign treatment ~ Bet you didn’t know that did you! ~ made me start to like the look of lipstick on me.  All summer I wore my birthday treats of the Mexican Rose Nars lip pencil and my GOSH lip pen in a pinky red but as winter came it was too bright and I wanted to head for a classic red.

What with there being so much choice to paint our lips in I reached out to the Twittersphere for help and had some great suggestions: Tom Ford Cherry Lush, MAC Ruby woo, Chanel Rouge Allure in Flamboyante. Another big problem I have with lipstick is that it dries your lips out and doesn’t seem to stay put for long.  Lorna from The ginger peardrop gave some great advice:

“Put balm (Vaseline) on, blot and allow to sink in. Line lips lightly too. Trick is once on don’t lick lips/beware oily food”

With the wonder balm Lucas paw paw under my belt and a dress rehearsal with a{nother} friends lipstick I plumped for Max Factor in Ruby Tuesday….I can’t wait for it’s first outing. Watch this space….
