Morning light

DSC03001

The town was glad with morning light; places that had shown ugly and distrustful all night long, now wore a smile; and sparkling sunbeams dancing on chamber windows, and twinkling through blind and curtain before sleepers’ eyes, shed light even into dreams, and chased away the shadows of the night.

~ Charles Dickens, The Old Curiosity Shop ~

Having been a sun worshipper, a summer lover and a heat seeker all my life I thought I was down at the beginning of the year because it was cold for SOOOOO long. Because my limbs were bound tightly in coats and layers and boots. Because my summer wardrobe was lying dormant in an outhouse crying out to be worn and loved. Then the weather got a little warmer but the skies stayed a deep shade of grey and I realised that what I needed was light. I craved the sun, not necessarily for its warmth {although that certainly doesn’t hurt} but for it’s brightness, it’s brilliant light and to feel it’s rays on my saweeeet body.

The light of a great days morning is what I love the most. It’s a time to dream, to prepare and to hope for a fabulous day ahead.

Stay with me summer….don’t ever leave…

Shake up

susie1This time of year is when I find it most difficult to get ready every morning. It’s the end of summer but it’s too soon to be wearing joomps and bright, #summertimefuntime prints are too much. The nights are drawing in but days are still luscious and sunny.

WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO?

Well, a little inspiration is in order to shake up my mundane pickings of an AM and at times like this I head on over to the very first blog that I started following that of Ms Susie Bubble. While I don’t religiously follow her or agree with everything  that she wears when I do need a jolt of inspiration from time to time, a kick up the sartorial ass and a shake up of my wardrobe I head on over to Style Bubble and throw my rule book out of the window. She dreams up concoctions of outfits that never fail to make you think twice and look at any item of clothing with different eyes. Kimonos over slips under shirts teamed with leather, lace and plastic. Polka, print and platforms. Hats worn with vintage dressing gowns and designer gillets. The possibilities are endless and it makes scour through my wardrobe with a fresh perspective…Now….what to wear tomorrow????

m&s

A new crop of models arrived this week and I LOVE IT!

What a mixed bags of lushness. M&S have gone for the 3 A’s ~ Atheletes, Artists and Achievement ~ well, 4 A’s if you count the fact that the campaign has been shot by Annie Leibowitz. I find this so inspiring and empowering for women.

‘These women all possess intelligence, the confidence to succeed and innate personal style. From the physical strength and dedication of athletes and dancers, the honed skills of entertainers, the imagination of creative visionaries and the tireless campaigners, these women are pioneers in their fields.’

I say AMEN to that sister!

Long may we reign.

…even hotter Spanish nights

vogue mallWithout the close proximity of clear, blue water to dip into or a light breeze from across the seas to cool the skin the nights in Pollenca, Mallorca seemed even hotter than their delish, lazy days.  Having made the mistake, many moons ago I might add, of taking heels, fitted clothing and high~waisted anything  for the evenings of a warm European holiday I learnt from those mistakes. My evenings were for loose, drappy clothing that skimmed the body and created it’s own breeze, damp clean hair tucked away and a faithful and trusty flat ~ black and tan is all I took. Went with everything. The heel was not invited.

Hot Spanish days…

DSC02740

The dry heat of Northern Mallorca, the warm, aqua waters & the simple yet ridiculously gorgeous food made me so happy. I turned my phone off for a week, read through 3 unfinished books that have sat by my bed for far too long and loved the fact that my summer wardrobe go the catwalk showcasing that it so rightly deserves.

Denim cut offs, loose cotton tops, strapless java print dresses, flowing printed culottes, neon nails & loose, leather flip flops made my days long, languid and lushious…

As per usual my fellow travelling gypset was none other than Bestie From Africa who has been taking my photo, applying sun cream to my back, delivering worthy discussions and supplying many laughs for 21 years now.

I couldn’t think of a better travel companion to traipse the world with….and who is always up for a debate on the best nail varnish colour to wear on a beach holiday.

Mellow maxi

DSC02982

One of my favourite things in the world is simply people watching. I recently went to Spain for a week with Bestie From Africa and every evening, in the sweltering heat of Northern Mallorca, we would trip through the little town of Pollenca, where we were staying, to the local plaza, wander past the restaurants and simply sit and people watch…with an ice cream. I love to see other people in their finery and their own personal take on summer gear.

Tim and I will often do it at work too. Sit on the sofa, look out of the large shop front window & check out how people dress for extreme temperatures in the centre of town. We both have the same no no’s ~ no flipflops & no maxi dresses ~ but Tim’s tolerance for a maxi dress is not extended to any time or place. I, on the other hand, am not as offended by them. They were incredibly oversaturated a couple of summers ago and were the go to dress for WAG’s & out of towners on a hot day at Ascot but when you’re tripping around the house, pottering in the garden & lounging on the sofa I’m quite partial to a maxi or two.

My good friend & bon vivant extrodinaire Kass gave me this little freebie~from~a~mag a couple of years ago. I trimmed and branded her with a little left over java print material & made her my own…all in a days tweaking no? YES!

Seaside summertime

DSC02966

With August still supplying us with warm weather and sunny days I am still delving deep into that wardrobe of mine to unearth summer fabulousness that doesn’t often get an airing.  I gained this beauty above from Bestie From The TV a couple of years ago and although it only sees the light of summer days once or twice a year she is SOOOO easy to wear. Comfy, flowing and cool. We took a trip to the seaside together {like we did last time you saw her} and had a lovely time frollicing in the surf, eating fish and chips and walking the granny laden pier of Eastbourne.
