Shorts week ~ Boy shorts

DSC02659

I’ve had these Carhartt boys shorts for nearly 10 years now. I used to be the manager of a small womenswear boutique in Soho that sat opposite Carhartt. It was a small branch of the chain and only sold menswear. I always liked their shorts and challenged myself to ~ as I’ve done all {shorts} week ~ make these boys shorts look good on a tapered waist and a rubenesque bottom. As always a heel and a feminine print goes a long way.

Shorts week ~ Long low rise

DSC02717

Day two of ‘Shorts week’ ~ this thing is really taking off! I’ve seen loads of people wearing shorts. I’ve given them that knowing wink and we’ve shared a moment of ‘yes, we’re both participating in National ‘Shorts Week” ~ saw me don the complete opposite of yesterday’s treats. I went for low rise, longline, thin cord and a customary heel that makes m a little more fem. Loose fits and breezy times for long, hot summer days…happy days…..

Shorts week ~ High waisters

DSC02695When the weather decides to finally answer my prayers and grant me with a succession of weeks that firstly make everyone so God DAMN happy and secondly allow me to wear all my ‘summer summer’ clothes then I thank it’s pretty ass and make the most of this precious time.  As with Pants week {I’m sure you’ll all remember those good old days} I laid out all my shorts on my bed and each day made sure they got the showcasing that they so rightly deserved. A brown leg and a heel was all these high~waisted D.I.M.D.I shorts needed. I ran around town all day in this comfy, chic outfit. CHIC???? Gurrrrrrrrlllll…YES! I know they’re cut offs but with a sleeve, a heel and a high waist I made these badboys work for central London.

Nice.

Thanks.

Inspire me

whatiwore

As I scrolled down my facebook feed Istopped dead in my tracks as I came across Jessica from What I wore wearing an AMAZING pair of high~waisted jeans. She said, and I hereby quote:

‘Not ashamed to share that going to imogene + willie was one of the top priorities on my #‎Nashville‬ trip. Here’s the pair I splurged on’

Did someone say Nashville? Errrrr….yes I have family there. Did someone say JEANS MADE TO ORDER!!!!!!! Yes they certainly did right here.

I’m coming for you Imogene and Willie. I love you story, your ethos and the fact that I can have a pair of jeans moulded to perfection around tiny waist/baby bearing hips/dumpy legs. Hell to the YEAH!!!

Red nix trips: Vienna ~ Day drei

DSC02627

While the weather forecast for both Berlin and Vienna weren’t in the late 20’s, as I’d hoped, once I got to each city and spent many an hour traipsing their cobbled streets and discovering mini treasures {the not so mini treasure above is Vienna’s parliament building we walked past one day} I was glad of the slightly cooler temperatures. My leather shorts were my final outfit for the beautiful city of Vienna and I couldn’t think of anything more fitting than topping off my pins in some soft leather hot pants.

Red nix trips: Vienna ~ Day zwei

DSC02589

While I only took with me a small wheelie case and a rucksack I managed to severely over pack! I tightly rolled enough outfits for everyday…and for every night. Both days in Berlin saw us leave the house in the morning and not return until late at night so although some outfits didn’t get worn I had to make sure some of my ‘Eastern European’ pieces were worn and loved.

When I thought about what to pack & what I wanted to wear for my week long trip I thought about ~OF COURSE ~ my Austrian dirndl, floral vintage dresses, heidi plaits for the hair and my leather lederhosen. Check back tomorrow to see those beauties in action.

Red nix trips: Vienna ~ Day eins

DSC02557

Vienna was ridiculous. And when I say ridiculous I really mean RIDIC!

LORDY, LORDY, LORDY! What opulence, grandeur and excessivel use of gold. I loved it! After a day train all the way from Berlin, through Prague and finally to Vienna I went to meet Cousin Will ~ who was working there for a couple of months ~ and Bro Dude who came out for the weekend to join us. We hopped on and off old trams, walked along the graffiti laden river, turned every corner to be faced with churches, mansions, monuments, cathedrals, drank weiss wein ger spritz and explored palaces full of art, statues and even more gold.

Red nix trips: Berlin

DSC02504

While Berlin wasn’t exactly what I expected I was pleasantly surprised at what she had to offer. I set off on the Tuesday from London town to my beloved Paris with just a quick skip from Gare du Nord to Gare du l’Est and then hopped on the overnight sleeper all the way to Berlin. I had two full days in Berlin with my good friend Debbie Veseywho I used to work with at Orla Kiely, and took in this sparsely populated and, at times, often confused capital city that is full of artists, musicians and bon vivants. We wandered the old and the new parts, took a boat trip whilst wearing a sequinned jacket {why not?!} did some amazing vintage shopping, ate so cheaply and daydreamed about what it would be like to live in this up and coming city.

{butt flashing my wobbles and bobbles in berlin}

‘Excuse my bad bikini line’ is all I seem to hear myself say these days. And it’s not just me. I don’t know anyone who is happy with that line of fuzz that cradles our knicker line. Whether you’re waxing, shaving, plucking or burning that pubic line away it never seems to look good.

‘What you doing talkin’ ’bout pubes gurl?’

Good question. Well, I’m talking about it because it’s summer time and because this Sunday I am off to Brighton {again!} with a group of girls to celebrate Ms. De Bruyn‘s birthday. We’ll be swimming in the sea, sunbathing and, for most of the time, sitting around in swimwear. The majority of us who are going are complaining about one thing or another ~ Mine is my hairy lady mary of downtown abbey {I’m between waxes and am never sure what you’re supposed to do?! What is the answer people???} ~ others don’t want to get their white body parts out, large bottoms, wobbly bits, bad bikini’s when lying down, bad swimsuits for the boobs, cellulite….The list is endless…and pointless.

Pointless because these things should not matter. I’m not stupid enough to think that they don’t but they shouldn’t and so I’m going to try really hard on Sunday to not care about my bumpy, stubbly bikini line, my cellulite~y legs and my varacoise veins. I shall concentrate on getting to the waters edge without hurting my feet on the pebbles, with swimming in the sea for as long as possible, with finding a way to make Ms De Bruyn cackle with laughter, with making K Dog do the splits for me and with plying Sugartits with cider even though I know she’ll be hungover.

Forget the lumps, bumps, sags, hairy~ness and odd bits of your sweet bodies and concentrate on the laughter, the stories, the fun times and, in this case, the excessive drinking.

Happy weekend y’all.

Please remember to wear sunscreen.
