The culmination of my inspiration

Like I said yesterday I was so inspired by Ms. Lau’s outfits {see here} that I had a layering session of my own and came up with a comfortable and quirky outfit that I loved wearing.

{vintage rokit coat, self designed scarf, american apparel cardi, gifted antique brooch, m&s brown shirt, h&m green shirt, orla kiely belt, gifted tights, anthropoligie boots, vintage skirt and bag}

Inspiration {Ms. Lau}

For those of you not familiar with Susie Lau’s blog Style bubble check it out here.

It was the first fashion blog I ever started reading about 4 years ago.  It’s a very wordy blog that I go through phases of reading but recently I’ve really got into it and haven’t simply skipped the words to get to the pictures.  She wrote a great post about getting older and how our style changes {check it here} and I’ve loved watching the Avant Garde diaries video she posted below.  Her shirt/long skirt/joomp winter outfits got my brain working overtime and my outfit today {I’ll post for you tomorrow} is a product of that unpaid extra work I did. Enjoy.

D.I.M.D.I – with buttons!

A couple of years ago I went crazy for buttons!

I went to stay up with Great Auntie Joan in Cumbria {#amazeballs chazzer shazzers there! Got these there} and the haberdashery shops that were around were so brilliant.  I found bags full of colourcoded buttons for £1.50.  In Urban Outfitters down this way they sell a scrap of cardboard with 6 buttons on it for approximately £2.50. Come on! You know where I’m headed. I splashed out at this MAJOR REDUCTION and bought tons of butts, not knowing what my project would be with them but knowing that a project would one day rear it’s beautiful head…..

{vintage coat and heels from rokit, selfmade scarf, reworked jumper, vintage skirt, gifted tights, orla kiely leather bag}

When Bro Dude passed on his ‘SHE shrunk it in the washing machine didn’t she!’ wool jumper, I took it with every intention of jazzing that bad boy up.  One night in front of ‘I’m a celebrity get me outta here’ Newsnight I sat down with my bargionous buttons and made myself the collar of a shirt….

Another project I did to liven up an old joomp was by making the buttons look like lapels….Will showcase one day….You could also make them into a sewn on brooch, a pocket, a faux line down the back similar to this, a pair of nipples..I mean the possibilities are endless.

Try it my Shoelets, try colour blocking as well as clashing colours, similar styles of buttons, lettered buttons….Whatever you can get your handme down mitts on!

Only by the night – Party piece

Sometimes I love an outfit so much that I want to wear it to every party I’m ever invited to.  A small, christmas house party was the setting for revealing {again} my favourite ‘go to’ party collaboration.

It’s easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Add one pair of high-waisted jeans, an M&S body, a reworked ANCIENT lace top {gotta love that lace especially at Christmas!!}, a killer pair of heels and a monstrous fur….Good to go my Shoelets

{vintage fur, chazzer shazzer clutch, reworked lace top, m&s body, supre high-waisted jeans, office leopard print heels}

NYC nakedness

{leather jacket from pop boutique, gifted scarf and grey hoodie, reworked waistcoat {last seen here}, vintage dolce and gabanna skirt, gap mittens and socks, belstaff boots, orla kiely bag}

Women in NYC don’t wear tights. Period.

Ok…so not ALL women don’t wear tights and not NEVER do they not wear tights but I read an article in Vogue once that I found so fancinating and it was that women in NYC, when dressing up to go out, simply don’t wear tights!

 What?  How can that be?

But it’s true….Look at this picture of the The Glamourai {here} all dressed up for a night out in December and her legs be bare.  Also The Man Repeller and her buddies {here} all naked! It reminds me of when SJP was getting Carrie ready for Sex and the City and she said she will never wear foundation as NYC women simply don’t! The fact that mani/pedi’s and taxi’s are much cheaper over there are obviously big factors.

When I read the article I found it extrodinary as I couldn’t imagine a world without my beloved opaques but this year my love of le tight is waning.  I find them to jar with certain outfits and I’m not into my crazy colours as I once was. Although, I won’t be giving them up completely because if I’m not on le BMX then I’m waiting for a bus at the end of a night and a bare leg with a 30 minute wait outside the Maccy D’s on The Strand will freeze the ass off even the most warm blooded of mofos.

On a date with the theatre though I decided to roadtest this New York madness and you know what?…It wasn’t so bad!  My top half was so layered up and snuggly that it didn’t matter that my legs were flying solo.

Another Christmas date with old friends at Wild Honey this week is going to involve a bare leg…..as well as a see through skirt….You know me my darling Shoelets…always like to shock…

Still not decided what you want to wear for upcoming parties, Christmas day or New Years eve? Treat yourselves to a Sweet discount…..

D.I.M.D.I – Thermal vestage

This time of year my brain and my body just simply don’t seem to function properly.  The cold manages to seep in and ruin everything.  I want to hibinate, watch movies under blankets, eat cheese and wear elasticated pants.  Alas it’s also the busiest time of the year and leaving the house is, unfortunately, a necessity.

To combat that bone-shaking feeling of coldness I feel when leaving the house, I turn to a trusted and loyal friend of mine.

The Thermal vest

HALLELUJAH!!!!

{cool original}

I love her like I love the 10 minutes I get to myself on the sofa on Christmas day.  She has been a beautiful friend of mine for many a year now and I think you kids need to jump on the band wagon.  A couple of Christmas’ ago Sister With Massive Laugh treated me to some Heattech long johns , for skiing, from Uniqlo which were great and I would highly recommend.

However, I love a traditional looking thermal and for that I turn to my beloved M&S.  They come in all shapes and sizes – Long sleeve, vests, long johns, knickers!! and I’ve got them all. I love a soft grey {as seen above} but the only other colours they come in are a nude {I have a matching vest and nix set in this colourway} a black and a cream.

CREAM???  No…Come on…It’s me….I head for those dylon dyes….I make my way to the washing machine and within an hour or so I have a varitable rainbow of vetements….

{tangerine dream cover-up}

{short-sleeved orange treat}

{raspberry mousse long line}

{strappy citrine style}

{comfy originals plus hobbs socks and gifted kiwi sheepskins}

They also make great homemade presents for peeps.  You know, buying a necessity for someone but sprucing that badboy up?  Try it my Shoelets…DO IT!!!!

Only by the night

{vintage fur coat from nyc, vintage sequin jacket from sydney, supre playsuit, m&s glitter tights and shoeboots}

When your work Christmas party is at Bloomsbury bowling lanes, the best  ONLY outfit to wear is a playsuit no?

I bought this cute, but very tiny, piece of cloth many moons ago in Sydney when I was a bit smaller and a little more ambitious.  Age and weight have kept me from wearing it tightless for quite a few years but by adding a staement vintage fur, sequins and opaque glitter tights I was good to go!

Festive P.A.R.T.Y outfit? DONE!

OOOOhhhhh cheeky….First Christmas party season outfit was a hit with my ladies…Watch this space for more beauties to come!!

Tree tings

{my gorgeous london at christmas time}

When you’re supposed to be at work for 10am, on the day of your christmas party, but you wake up at 9.10am rushing to get ready is an UNDERSTATEMENT!! Luckily for me I had Sweet Treated myself earlier in the week and had my outfit all ready to go on a hanger….PHEW!!  It’s not too late to book yourselves a discounted Sweet Treat and be costume ready at the drop or a hat {or the panic of an none set alarm clock!}

Tree Tings that have made me very happy this week with a distinctive festive feel.
